Advisory members play an active role in mentoring and providing constructive criticisms and guidance for the betterment of the festival. These members are incredibly well achieved in their profession and they all share a strong passion for cinema and art.
PRATHAP K POTHEN
Prathap K Pothen, an ace Director, Writer, Producer and Actor has done about 95 films in Malayalam, Tamil, Kannada, Telugu and Hindi. He acted with The Madras Players, the oldest English language theatre group in Chennai. The late director Bharathan enjoyed Pratap’s performance in Shaw’s play ‘Androcles and the Lion’, and invited Pratap to act in his Malayalam film ‘Aaravam’. His first directorial venture ‘Meendum Oru Kaathal Kathai’ has won the National Award. His performance in the movie ‘Varumayin Niram Sivappu’, directed by K Balachandar created a wave in the Tamil film industry. His subtlety as an actor and a director has been his forte. In an era when loud acting and innovations were not in vogue, Prathap teamed up with Kamal Hassan in Vetri Vizha. It was the first time that steady cam was used in a Tamil film. In the last eight years he is busy with his ad agency named Green Apple and focused on commercials for MRF Tyres, Nippo, etc.
“Crazy” Mohan is a popular actor, script writer and playwright. He is also the founder of the popular drama troupe ‘Crazy Creations’. Under the leadership of Crazy Mohan, the Crazy Creations performed over 5000 plays across Tamil Nadu, most of the themes involving satire and witty dialogue. In addition to dramas and tele-serials, he has also written number of comedy films, like Michael Madana Kama Rajan, Apoorva Sagodharargal, Avvai Shanmughi and Panchathanthiram.
Poet Pottuvil Asmin is one among the poets who writes “Marabu Kavidhaigal” in Tamil language. He was introduced as a lyricist in Tamil Film industry through the song “Thappellaam Thappeillai” in the movie “Naan”. He is also TV Program producer and TV anchor and is now currently working in Vasantham TV in Srilanka. He has received more than Ten awards including President award (2001), Agasthiar award (2011), Kalaimuthu Award (2011) and Kalaidheepam Award (2011).
Nandini Karky works as a Subtitler and Translator in Tamil Cinema. She is a certified subtitling professional, certified by Subtitling Worldwide, Netherlands. She started her subtitling career with ‘Moondru Per Moondru Kaadhal’ in May 2013 and has completed 8 projects as of now. These include award-winning movies like ‘Thangameengal’, which has been received very well in the festival film circuit. She has translated more than 100 songs written by Karky, for his website and has also worked on the translations of movie scripts.
Shana Mahendran was born in Batticaloa, Sri Lanka the very town where ace Director Balu Mahendra was born. She currently resides in London and has been awarded “National Level Best Actress” (2001 & 2002) during school days of the inter school national drama competitions. She entered the movie industry as the main lead actress in the critically acclaimed film “Mann” the first ever full length feature film in Sri Lanka. She has worked with renowned actors and technicians from the South Indian Cinema Industry. She has now started a production company in the UK that aims to create an Industry in Europe and overseas to help bring out the talent from small screen to silver screen.
Thenuka is a multi-faceted personality. She is a renowned actor, dancer, yoga instructor and counselor. In her first feature-length movie, A Gun & A Ring, she plays the lead character, Aby. Her powerful and stunning performance earned her a nomination for the Golden Goblet Award at the Shanghai International Film Festival, 2013. The film was also an official entry at the Montreal World Film Festival, 2013. She is also a skilled acupuncturist who dispenses the time-honored traditional Chinese therapy to the needy. Based in Berlin Germany, she works with the deprived and disadvantaged women of the society, and gives them control and command of their own lives by empowering them with awareness and education.
VIJAY V PATKAR
Vijay V Patkar is an Indian theatre, television, Marathi film and Bollywood film actor and director. He has acted in more than 125 Marathi films, 40 Hindi films, 90 ads like Krack Jack, KitKat, Prime Tape etc. and 500 episodes in various serials, most notable role in the serial Don’t Worry Hojaega. He has directed 7 Marathi films including Ek Unad Divas, Lau Ka Lath, Chashme Bahaddar etc. and 2 Hindi films Revayath and Life In Dark. He has won the BEST DIRECTOR award for 5 consecutive years in INTER-BANK competitions. Also won the IAAFA (The Indian Academy Of Advertising Film Art) award for excellence in 1999. He was a Judge for MATA (Maharshtra Times) SANMAN and a Member of the Oscar jury for India 2013.
Chaarumathe is the star of Malaysia and a Playback Singer in India, started her music career in 2006, participated in numerous talent competitions throughout the globe. Chaaru began to be heard across the nation through her first debut in Ayyavazhi in 2008 and then followed by the film Killathey in 2009. Her real breakthrough came up in 2013 when she won the international talent competition Championship called AIA’s Got Talent 2013 in Hong Kong. She has also been actively Hosting television programmes in Malaysia for reality Game shows, Technologies, and Cooking. She is so much involved in public service for needy children for poverty and basic education around the globe. At present Chaaru is working on further Playback in Chennai.
